caIMAGE is an image database maintained by the NCI Center for Bioinformatics and Information Technology. caIMAGE contains about 1,500 histology images collected from various species. About half of these images are whole-slide images. Whole-slide images are presented via the Zoomify viewer with zooming, panning and ROI annotation capabilities.
Starting with the most current release, the caIMAGE application utilizes aDORe djatoka for all non-whole-slide images. aDORe djatoka is a Java-based open source image server with an attractive feature set. djatoka provides compression and region extraction of JPEG 2000 images, URI-addressability of regions, and support for a rich set of input/output image formats (for example, BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, PNM, TIF, JPEG 2000). djakota replaces the previously used Lizardtech server. Images stored in the Lizardtech specific format .sid have been losslessly converted to work with the new image server.
caIMAGE utilizes anatomy and disease vocabularies served by the NCI Thesaurus.
